Egypt’s FM Stresses Immediate Ceasefire and Aid Access in Gaza


Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Simeón Oyono Esono Angue, onWednesday12/6/2024,.

The visit is part of a delegation led by the Vice President of Equatorial Guinea currently in Cairo.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson and Director of Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that the discussions centered on enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors, including health and pharmaceuticals.

They emphasized the importance of involving Equatorial Guinean professionals in training programs organized by Egypt and the scholarships offered by Egyptian universities.

Additionally, they discussed ways to deepen commercial and investment cooperation, building on recent growth and diversification in their relations.

The meeting also covered numerous topics of mutual interest, such as peace and security in Africa and coordinating on African issues within multilateral frameworks.

Ambassador Abu Zeid further noted that the talks addressed the latest developments in Gaza and the outcomes of the emergency humanitarian response conference.

Shoukry reiterated the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid. He outlined the efforts of Egyptian mediation, in cooperation with Qatar, to establish a truce that would facilitate the exchange of prisoners and detainees and allow humanitarian aid to enter, ultimately aiming for a permanent ceasefire.
