Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received Friday 2/2/2024 a phone call from European Union Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Policy Oliver Varhelyi as part of following up on the results of his recent visit to Brussels. Shoukry’s visit witnessed a European consensus to increase European economic support for Egypt within the framework of raising relations between the two sides to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The European Commissioner was keen to inform Minister Sameh Shoukry of the developments related to the approval by the European Union Summit, which was held Thursday 1/2/2024 in Brussels, of additional financial allocations to neighboring countries of the European Union, including Egypt, within the framework of the mid-term review of the European budget for the period (2021-2027). This decision allocates additional financial and economic support to Egypt.
The call discussed means of deepening cooperation between the two sides during the coming period, and enhancing relat
ions in various political, economic, commercial, cultural and scientific fields within the framework of the new comprehensive strategic partnership relationship.
The call also touched on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, the importance of increasing the volume of humanitarian aid to the population of the Strip, and removing any obstacles that prevent it from providing adequate and sustainable aid to the people of the Strip.
