Egypt FM, AU Commission discuss developments in region


Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti and Chairman of African Union Commission Moussa Faki discussed Saturday the latest developments in the region, and the Horn of Africa and West African countries.

This came in a meeting held between the two sides during the 6th session of the summit of the African Union and the regional economic groupings, hosted by the capital of Ghana, Accra, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The meeting dealt with the crises facing these countries that show repercussions on the whole Continent, it added.

This requires understanding the roots of these crises and working on handling them in a comprehensive framework and a strategic vision, it stated.

The minister stressed Egypt’s keenness on involvement in desired efforts to face challenges in the region, it noted.

He extolled the role of the commission in enhancing peace, security and stability in Africa in this phase.

He referred to the importance of activating the AU’s rebuilding development center after disputes a
s soon as possible.

The gathering witnessed sharing views on the latest political and security situations in Sudan, it stated.

Egypt’s hosting of Sudanese civil and political forces aimed at creating common ground among civil forces about means of building a comprehensive and everlasting peace in Sudan, he noted.

Meanwhile, Faki extolled continued consultation with Egypt in the AU’s issues, appreciating Egypt’s pivotal role in solving African issues and enhancing security and peace, and achieving sustainable development in Africa.

He underlined the significance of concerned efforts among all parties, and taking serious and effective actions to reach a solution to Sudan’s crisis.

He said that he looks forward to boosting cooperation with Egypt and the Arab League to solve the Arab and African issues.
