Egypt condemns Israeli attacks on UNRWA school in Gaza Strip

Egypt condemned on Thursday 12/9/2024 Israel’s most recent bombing of displaced Palestinians sheltering in schools and facilities operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip.

On Wednesday, Palestinians were searching for missing persons amid the rubble of a former United Nations school in Nuseirat, central Gaza.

In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt also stressed that the persistent targeting of UN and international facilities and organizations, without any effective deterrence or accountability, is a clear violation of international law.

In the statement, Cairo emphasized that the crimes and abuses against innocent civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories must be halted immediately.

‘This situation starkly highlights the failure of the international community to uphold its principles and values impartially, undermining its credibility and effectiveness. Therefore, it is essential for the UN Security Council to fulfi
l its responsibilities,’ stated the foreign ministry.

Furthermore, Egypt called on all key international actors to intensify their efforts to ensure that Israel meets its international and humanitarian obligations, read the statement.

Cairo also reiterated that prioritizing the protection of lives and the restoration of the Palestinian’s fundamental rights is crucial for the international community.
