MANILA: A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Luzon, Philippines, on Monday, causing concern but no immediate reports of damage. The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
According to Emirates News Agency, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed the tremor struck the northern town of Bangui in Ilocos province. While the quake was classified as shallow, which can sometimes lead to more significant surface effects, Phivolcs stated that there is no expectation of damage in the area.
Despite the lack of anticipated damage, Phivolcs warned that aftershocks are likely. Residents in the affected regions are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for potential subsequent tremors. The agency continues to monitor the situation closely to provide updates and ensure public safety.
