British Embassy in Libya stresses that discussions about a new government should be part of broader negotiations focusing on elections.

The British Embassy in Libya said that the United Kingdom continues to call on Libyan leaders to prioritize the interests of the Libyan people and to make the necessary compromises to hold elections.

The embassy added on its X platform page today, Friday, that discussions about the new government should be part of broader negotiations focused on elections.

The regional spokeswoman for the British government for the Middle East and North Africa, “Rosie Diaz,” had said in televised statements that Libya’s leaders should focus their efforts on the requirements of the Libyan people to hold national presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.

She also described the formation of a new interim government as threatening to perpetuate the transitional periods without pushing the country towards elections.
