Brazil’s foreign tourists spend $3.7 billion in H1 2024

ABU DHABI: International visitors spent around US$3.7 billion in Brazil in the first half of 2024, Agência Brasil reported. This amount broke the previous record of $3.5 billion in 2014 when the country hosted the World Cup.

According to data released by the Brazilian Central Bank, the number is also 15.6% higher than the first half of 2023, when foreign visitors spent $3.2 billion.

In a statement, the Minister of Tourism Celso Sabino declared that Brazil has established itself as an attractive, competitive and valued destination on the global stage. “We are increasingly receiving these international visitors with an incredible diversity of tourist experiences,” he said.

The Ministry of Tourism said it has improved tourism infrastructure to strengthen the sector and increase foreigners’ presence in Brazil. “In 2023, the Ministry financed more than 500 projects, such as the renovation of waterfronts, the paving of roads, and the construction of event centres, which received a federal investment of $67 milli
on,” the Ministry explained.

According to Agência Brasil, the record inflow of foreign currency goes hand in hand with the increase in international visitors arriving in Brazil. More than 3.5 million foreign tourists entered the country in the first half of this year. The number is 9.7% higher than the one observed in the same period of 2023 — and 1.9% above the one registered in 2019.
