Baghdad Governorate intends to transform its entrance checkpoints into electronic smart ones


Baghdad Governorate announced its intention to transform the traditional security checkpoints installed at the entrances to the capital into advanced smart electronic checkpoints.

The Director of Roads and Bridges in Baghdad Governorate, Abdullah Hussein Mohsen, said in a statement issued by the Directorate, ‘Based on the directive of the Prime Minister, in the meeting held with the Governor of Baghdad, which included stopping traditional checkpoints at the main entrances to the capital and establishing smart electronic checkpoints to reduce the burden on citizens, in addition to transparency in procedures, he directed that checkpoints be completely smart using cameras.

He pointed out that “an expanded meeting was held with the National Center for Engineering Consultation in the presence of a representative of the Prime Minister’s Office and representatives of the directorates of the Ministry of Interior (checkpoints / works / explosives / intelligence), and the sectoral bodies supporting the work of check
points at the entrances to Baghdad Governorate, to determine the mechanism of controls, standards and special requirements for the transition towards… ‘Smart electronic checkpoints instead of traditional controls,’ noting that ‘the meeting discussed the mechanism for preparing designs for establishing new digital checkpoints at the main entrances to the capital, which rely on modern technology to detect wanted persons, whether they are persons or vehicles, in addition to using modern technologies for explosive and drug detection devices.’

The Director of Roads and Bridges in Baghdad Governorate explained, ‘The proposed model will be according to international standards, and the number of checkpoints will be reduced significantly after the establishment of these smart ones,’ noting that ‘Baghdad Governor Abdul Muttalib Al-Alawi previously directed that all public roads within the entrances to Baghdad be included in the smart camera system that provides modern technologies, which will help enhance security a
nd stability in the capital.’
