Austria’s Coalition Formation Talks Underway Between Nehammer and Babler.

Vienna: A new round of exploratory talks aimed at forming Austria’s next coalition government began today in Vienna between Chancellor Karl Nehammer, leader of the conservative People’s Party, and Andreas Babler, leader of the Social Democratic Party. The discussions, led by the two party leaders and joined by members of their negotiating teams, will continue over two days.

According to Emirates News Agency, the talks aim to explore opportunities for cooperation and seek a preliminary agreement to move from initial exploratory discussions to detailed negotiations for the next phase. This second round of talks, taking place today and tomorrow, will focus on key issues, including the budget, tackling inflation, strengthening Austria’s competitive position, migration, security, healthcare, and climate protection.

The first round of talks a few days ago focused on “creating a constructive negotiating atmosphere between the two parties,” according to the negotiating team of the People’s Party.
