At least 30 people killed in floods in Pakistan

At least 30 people were killed in floods caused by heavy rains in Pakistan, which led to extensive damage during the past week.

Lahore, Pakistan’s second largest city, witnessed rainfall at rates not seen in more than four decades.

Floods and landslides accompanied the start of the wind and rain season in Southeast Asia over the past week, resulting in the death of at least 195 people, while about 200 people are still missing in a disaster that occurred in neighboring India.

Heavy rains have hit northern Pakistan, causing flooding, collapsing buildings and increasing the risk of lightning strikes.

International organizations such as the United Nations consider Pakistan to be among the countries most vulnerable to extreme weather and climate change.

Floods in 2022 killed more than 1,700 people and displaced millions.
