Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation begins on 11th September

NEW DELHI: The 2nd AsiaPacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation will begin in New Delhi on 11th September, India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a press release today.

The two-day meeting is co-hosted by this Ministry and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Ministerial delegations from 17 Asia Pacific countries are attending the conference. Heads of several air safety organisations from outside the region, such as the Transportation Security Administration of the US and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, will also attend.

Airline industry bodies, including the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines and Directors General of Civil Aviation from the region have arrived in New Delhi for the opening of the conference.

The meeting will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of ICAO, a United Nations agency with 193 member countries to ‘share their skies to mutual benefit.’

‘It is an honour for India that this anniversary would be celebrated here as part of this conf
erence, reflecting India’s commitment to global aviation,’ said the Minister for Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu.

India, with its large population, is the fastest growing aviation market in the world. Its domestic segment is also the third largest in the world.

The 1st AsiaPacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation was held in Beijing in 2018. The second in the series was to take place in New Delhi in 2020. But it was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to ministerial meetings leading to a ‘Delhi Declaration’ and ICAO’s 80th anniversary celebrations, the latest conference will open up new opportunities in civil aviation with top industry leaders on one platform, the press release said.
