Al-Sudani to his Somali counterpart: Iraq is ready to cooperate with brotherly and friendly countries in the fight against terrorism


Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani affirmed Iraq’s readiness to cooperate with brotherly and friendly countries in fighting terrorism.

A statement by the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated: ‘Today, Saturday, Al-Sudani received the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, and his accompanying delegation, where an official reception ceremony was held for the guest Prime Minister at the government palace in the capital, Baghdad, during which the national anthems of both countries were played.’

The meeting witnessed a discussion of bilateral relations and a number of files related to economic and security cooperation, as well as a number of issues at the regional and international levels of common interest.

Al-Sudani expressed his welcome to his Somali counterpart, stressing the government’s readiness to cooperate with Somalia in several areas, as Iraq today enjoys the stability achieved after the defeat of terrorism through the efforts of the security forces, as well as the
unity of the Iraqi people of all sects, which was a decisive factor in achieving victory, noting that the armed forces it continues to pursue the remnants of the defeated ISIS terrorist gangs.

The Prime Minister also stated: ‘Iraq today possesses information, experience and know-how in the field of combating terrorism and tracking its groups, and is ready to cooperate with brotherly and friendly countries to help fight it,’ pointing to the great danger posed by terrorism wherever it exists, and that it is in the interest of peoples and countries to cooperate in combating it and not being complacent in the face of the threat and destabilization it poses.

For his part, Barre expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the warm reception, and his country’s desire to benefit from Iraq’s experiences in the field of combating terrorism, as well as in the field of economic cooperation, as Somalia possesses natural resources that have not been exploited.

The meeting touched on the ongoing aggression against Gaza,
and the genocide that the Palestinian people are being subjected to, which requires the international community to deal seriously to stop the brutal aggression, provide relief to our besieged Palestinian people in Gaza, and the necessity of concerted efforts of Arab and Islamic countries to pressure to stop the systematic killing machine of Palestinians.
