Al-Sudani meets the Cypriot President and stresses the importance of coordinating positions regarding the escalation in Gaza and Lebanon

Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met yesterday evening, Wednesday (Baghdad time), with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, on the sidelines of his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to a statement by his media office, Al-Sudani stressed the keenness to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in various sectors, openness to political consultations and the formation of bilateral committees, and support investment and partnerships in all fields. He extended an invitation to the Cypriot President to visit Iraq.

The Prime Minister pointed to the importance of coordinating positions towards the current escalation in Gaza and Lebanon, stressing the need for Cyprus to exercise its role as a member of the European Union, and push towards respecting international laws that are being violated in an unprecedented manner, in addition to ignoring the United Nations resolutions, which leads to a breach of the covenants, charters and
governing humanitarian norms.

For his part, the Cypriot President expressed his welcome and readiness to accept the invitation to visit Iraq, and exchanged views with the Prime Minister on ways to resolve the current crisis and prevent its expansion. He also expressed the readiness of Cypriot companies to work in Iraq, as well as his country’s readiness to cooperate in order to serve common issues and interests.
