Al Obaidli reviews Dubai Police’s Strategy for Digital Transformation 2024-2033

DUBAI: Dr. Major General Abdul Quddus Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidli, Assistant Commandant for Excellence and Pioneering Affairs, reviewed the Dubai Police’s digital transformation strategy for 2024-2033, which aligns with Dubai’s Digital Strategy.

This occurred during an inspection visit to review work progress at the General Department of Artificial Intelligence, part of the annual inspection program of general departments and police stations.

Major General Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, Director of the General Department of Artificial Intelligence at Dubai Police, provided a detailed briefing on Dubai Police’s digital transformation strategy for 2024-2033. The strategy includes five key pillars, namely; delivering a digital experience for a safe and connected city, providing connected and digitized police operations, real-time data analytics, fostering a secure and resilient digital community, building a resilient and future-ready digital infrastructure.

Al Razooqi also reviewed the Dubai Police’s digital transforma
tion journey over the years, beginning with e-government journey from 2001-2012, during which Dubai Police garnered 31 awards for electronic service transformation. This was followed by the smart government phase from 2013-2017, where the Force collected 68 awards, including the best government mobile service award at local, regional and global levels for 6 consecutive years.

The most recent phase has been the artificial intelligence government period from 2018-2023, where Dubai Police secured 48 awards, including the Smart Police Station’s win of the Smart Government Award in 2018. Significantly, the Force also achieved 100% paperless transformation during this phase.

Alrazooqi explained that Dubai Police is developing a ‘Smart Planning for Minor Traffic Accidents’ mechanism using AI technologies. “This will enable the analysis of accidents and the generation of immediate reports for drivers without human intervention, reducing the steps involved in obtaining a “Minor Accident” report from seven to four,”
he said.

Alrazooqi further stated that AI is being integrated into the “Vehicle History Record,” allowing prospective buyers to easily access a vehicle’s accident history and providing a clear picture of its mechanical condition before purchase.

One of Dubai Police’s prominent AI applications is “Amna,” a virtual officer capable of interacting with the public and answering inquiries in both Arabic and English. Officer Amna, holding the rank of 1st Lieutenant, is available on the Dubai Police app and responds to inquiries about police services through voice commands. In 2023, Officer Amna conducted 20,000 conversations with the public.

The updated Dubai Police smart app, available on iOS, Android, and Huawei platforms, also incorporates AI features to enhance user experience and facilitate access to services. Downloaded approximately 7.9 million times, the force’s smart app supports seven languages.

Dubai Police, in collaboration with partners, also uses AI and blockchain technology for “lost passport cert
ificate” transactions. Since 2021, 66,413 certificates have been issued using this secure and encrypted service, eliminating the need for customers to visit service centres and saving them time and effort.

The Smart Police Station (SPS) is another significant implementation of AI, offering various services to the public.

Since the beginning of 2024, the SPS has received 127,515 visitors and processed 36,376 transactions. Customers can benefit from 46 services offered through 25 SPSs located conveniently across Dubai.
