Secretary-General of the Islamic Dawa Party, Nouri al-Maliki, discussed with the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Pavel Talabani, in the presence of members of the political bureaus of the Islamic Dawa Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, developments in the political and security situation in the country.
A statement by Al-Maliki’s office said that the two sides reviewed the historical relations that bind them, stressing their keenness to sustain them through mutual understandings and meetings.
The Secretary-General of the Islamic Dawa Party stressed the need to continue communication with all political forces with the aim of cooperation to solve the problems that hinder the political process, as well as how to provide full support by the national powers for the success of the government’s work, stressing the importance of adopting dialogue in order to achieve political reconciliation in resolving the existing differences, especially in Iraqi Kurdistan, especially in the issue of holding local elections in the region according to the law and the constitution.
For his part, Pavel Talabani praised al-Maliki’s role in converging views and finding solutions to differences through dialogue, reiterating the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s support for the federal government, and consolidating the principle of cooperation between all political forces in order to overcome obstacles that stand in the way of governmental and parliamentary action.
