The head of al-Nasr Coalition, Haider Al-Abadi, congratulated the Iraqi press family on the occasion of the 154th anniversary of its National Day.
In his congratulations, Al-Abadi said: “I congratulate the Iraqi press on its national day. On this day, the first Iraqi newspaper, Al-Zawraa, was born in 1869.”
Al-Abadi added: “We need a free and responsible press to support the march of good governance and keep pace with the communications revolution and its comprehensive effects on society. We also need legal protection for freedom of the press. We need media commitment to the foundations of citizenship, peace and the supreme interests of the state.”
