Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has introduced a new initiative aimed at providing students from the Al Karamah Training Institute (AKTI) with professional opportunities through partnerships with leading industry players in Abu Dhabi. This initiative is part of ADEK’s Inclusion Strategy for Students of Determination and is a key element of the broader Abu Dhabi Strategy for People of Determination.
According to Emirates News Agency, the initiative involves trial work placements designed to empower Students of Determination by offering them pathways to independent living and future employment opportunities. ADEK has collaborated with notable industry leaders, including the Department of Culture and Tourism (Cultural Foundation), Burjeel Holdings, PureHealth, Al Fahim Holding, RFLCT Creative Arts Centers, Rolling Wheels Entertainment, and Elysian Flowers Boutique. These organizations will provide tailored placements for 23 Emirati Students of Determination, accounting for
30 percent of the total student body at AKTI.
The placements encompass a range of roles such as box office management, customer service, and financial and administrative data handling. This initiative aims to equip students with valuable skills and work experience. To facilitate a smooth transition into these roles, ADEK has also developed comprehensive training and development programs for industry partners, ensuring they are well-prepared to support and integrate the students effectively.
Sara Awadh Musallam, Chairman of ADEK, emphasized the importance of these opportunities, stating that providing students with career exploration avenues is an investment in the future of society. The initiative aims to foster an inclusive education system where every student can thrive beyond the classroom, ultimately building a community that values diversity.
Students participating in the initiative are assessed on their workforce readiness and performance during their placements. These assessments help in developing
personalized career paths, highlighting strengths, and identifying areas for growth. Based on on-the-job evaluations, students may pursue further training, mentorship opportunities, and short-term or long-term roles aligned with their skills and aspirations.
Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, highlighted the collaborative efforts within the emirate to create a disability-friendly environment for people of determination. He noted that this initiative aligns with the leadership’s vision to empower and support this important group in society. It serves as a pivotal step towards inclusive employment, providing sustainable and equitable job opportunities that ensure full participation in economic and social development.
The initiative employs a thorough process to match students with suitable roles, involving detailed student profiling, specialist observations, tailored upskilling programs, and collaboration with industry partners. This comprehensive approach
ensures mutual benefits for both students and companies involved.
