Representative in the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, yesterday, Wednesday, began an official visit to Japan to discuss with the Japanese side a number of issues of common interest.
The media office of the Presidential Council stated that the visit came based on an official invitation and aims to discuss several issues, including the return of economic cooperation, coordinating international positions between the missions of the two countries in international forums, including the firm Libyan position on the Palestinian issue, and coordinating the Japanese government’s support for peace-building efforts in Libya through the national reconciliation project, the return of Japanese companies to work in Libya, and the lifting of the travel ban for Japanese citizens to Libya.
During the visit, Al-Lafi met with the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yoko Kamikawa, in the presence of his accompanying delegation, which includes a member of the House of Representatives, Ayman Saif Al-Nasr, the Minister o
f Oil, Mohamed Aoun, the person in charge of managing the duties of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Taher Al-Baour, and the Director of the Asia and Australia Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Nouri Al-Kaseh, the advisor on the national reconciliation file, Abdullah Al-Hassi, and the Libyan ambassador to Japan, Ahmed Al-Naas.
Al-Lafi and his accompanying delegation met today, Thursday, with a member of the House of Representatives and Prime Minister of Japan, Yoshima Hayashi, and the Japanese Minister of Economy, Aime Saito. The meeting dealt with the need to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries, stimulate trade exchange between them, and involve their economic sectors to exchange visits and form Joint cooperation committees.
Al-Lafi and his accompanying delegation also visited Tokyo Prefecture, where he met with Mrs. Koike, the Governor of Tokyo, and the former President of the Libyan-Japanese Friendship Association.
