Abdel Atty, Borrell discuss Egypt-EU strategic partnership, Gaza

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel Atty discussed in a phone call on Sunday 7/7/2024 the latest developments in the Egyptian-EU relations and the war on Gaza with Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union.

During the call, Abdel Atty and Borrell emphasized their mutual commitment to elevating the relationship between Egypt and the European Union to a strategic partnership level.

They welcomed the momentum and success of the Egyptian-European Investment Conference held on June 29-30, considering it one of the initial major events of the new strategic partnership that sent a clear message to the European private sector about the significance of Egypt as a key destination for European investments.

Abdel Atty underscored the importance that Egypt places on implementing the comprehensive partnership agreement with the European Union, with its six pillars, and accelerating the disbursement of the associated fundin
g packages.

The call also touched on the developments concerning the Gaza crisis.

The Egyptian Minister expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the positive stances adopted by the High Representative regarding the situation in the region, particularly the crisis in Gaza.

Both officials also emphasized how they looked forward to continuing to cooperate to halt the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation faced by Gaza’s residents.

Abdel Atty also urged the High Representative to maintain the EU’s support for the Palestinian Authority to enable it to fulfil its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people, expressing Egypt’s keen interest in continuous coordination with the EU to support stability and defuse the serious crises currently facing the Middle East.
