Under the slogan, (peace is greater than victory), the Korean World Taekwondo Team presented in front of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) students a dazzling show of Taekwondo. The gymnasium at Sharjah Club hosted the show in conjunction with the Fujairah World Taekwondo Championship 2022. The show deserved all admiration and appreciation.
Her Excellency Sheikha Jamila bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, Director General of the City, Member of the Board of Directors of the International Taekwondo Federation, HE Dr. Chung Won Shwe, President of the International Taekwondo Federation, and HE Issa Hilal Al-Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council attended the show. HE Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Consultative Council, HE Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, City Manager, and Zayed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Vice President of the Emirates Taekwondo Federation were present as well.
After the show, which the audience received with warmth and encouragement in appreciation of the movements that combined the details of taekwondo with the authentic Emirati heritage, Sheikha Jamila Al Qasimi praised the great effort of the Korean team. Their distinguished performance combined the sport with art and motivation.
She said, “Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services has been providing a stimulating and supportive environment for athletes with disabilities in order to include, advocate, and empower them, in order to achieve excellence in the most prominent local and international forum”.
The city has always called for the support and encouragement of sports teams to participate in international competitions. This is an attempt to raise the physical and mental capabilities of young people with disabilities by traveling, practicing sports, interacting with other societies and cultures, participating in various tournaments, and achieving advanced positions.
The Director General of the city extended her highest thanks and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his continuous support for the sport of persons with disabilities. This lead to the empowerment of athletes in international events and the achievement of results that the country is proud of in front of the nation.
She also thanked Dr. Chung Won Shwe, President of the International Taekwondo Federation, for his keenness to integrate people with disabilities into this sport. He invited them to participate in world championships, which contributes to enhancing their self-confidence and raising community awareness of their abilities.
For his part, Dr. Chung has confirmed Federation’s keenness to promote sports and empower persons with disabilities through inclusive and organized programs around the world.
The Federation also seeks to develop and grow the sport of Taekwondo. It provides the opportunity for everyone to play, watch and enjoy the sport regardless of age, gender, nationality, religion, race or abilities. In addition to promoting global principles of peace and sustainability through education and strengthening partnerships with international organizations and associations.
Chung highly valued the great and influential role of Her Excellency Sheikha Jamila bint Muhammad Al Qasimi in including, advocating and empowering people with disabilities. She has been demanding their rights through self-advocacy and emphasizing their inclusion. He expressed his hope that the cooperation with the city will continue to provide the best always.
His Excellency Issa Hilal Al-Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, gave a speech in which he expressed the club’s permanent readiness to cooperate with the city in all events and occasions, sports and non-sports. It is within the visions and directives of the “supporter of the disabled” His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. His Highness is keen to provide all means of support and care for his athletes, especially the Knights of Will.
He also expressed pride in the sporting achievements of persons with disabilities at all levels. He expressed the permanent council’s keenness to provide facilities and provide what is necessary to achieve the best results and achievements.
At the conclusion of the event, His Excellency Dr. Chung Won Shwe handed over a souvenir to Her Excellency Sheikha Jamila Al Qasimi as an expression of his gratitude for her continuous support for the sport of persons with disabilities in all fields.
