A Joint Meeting Between The Basra Govt And The Iranian Ambassador To Discuss The Rail Link Project Between The Two Countries

The Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, confirmed “we discussed with the Iranian ambassador important axes, the most important of which is the railway link project between Iraq and Iran, through Shalamcheh border crossing, to facilitate the process of transporting visitors to the holy shrines between the two countries.

The governor said during a meeting held this afternoon at the Shalamcheh port, that there is suffering in the process of transporting visitors during the Shaaban visits, as well as in the holy month of Muharram, due to hundreds of thousands of visitors, and this causes great congestion, so it was agreed on the railway link in the transport process between the two countries.

He added, “There are two delegations from Iraq and Iran specialized in railways, who will meet today to discuss defining the mechanism, determining the path of the railway, and starting the project.”

The governor of Basra pointed out that the project receives the attention of the Prime Minister, and “we are determined to start work and complete it soon.”

In addition, the Iranian ambassador, Muhammad Kazem Al Sadiq, said “we came to Basra today and met its governor in the light of a political will between the officials of the two countries to establish a railway link project between Shalamcheh and Basra,” indicating that “this vital project will contribute to the consolidation of the relationship between the two countries, especially in the fields of religious and economic tourism.”

He added that “during the meeting, which was attended by two delegations from both sides, we discussed the Arbaeen visit in the holy city of Karbala,” expressing his thanks and gratitude to the Iraqi people and to the Basra government for their hospitality and their reception of the Iranian delegation.
