67th annual Frankfurt Book Fair kicks off

The annual Frankfurt Book Fair, which hosts nearly 4,000 exhibitors from all over the world, opened its doors for its 67th edition on Wednesday and will continue until October 20.

In a statement, it was revealed that the first three days of the exhibition are exclusive to the specialized public, especially publishing houses and the book trade sector, before opening it to readers on Saturday and Sunday.

German State Minister for Culture and Media, Claudia Roth, called on cultural elites in Germany and the world to combat fake news in her opening speech, she also stressed that book production requires “freedom and democracy, just as democracy needs books.” The CEO of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Juergen Boos, in a similar speech stressed the importance of the fair being a place for passionate discussions delivered and received with respect.

The fair will be attended by more than 7,500 people specialized in the book industry from more than 100 countries, while fair management expects about 280,000 people and more
than 10,000 journalists and media outlets to visit it.
