6.7 million people in China sign up for organ donation


BEIJING: More than 6.7 million people in China have registered as volunteers to donate their bodies and human organs, according to a document released by the National Health Commission (NHC) on Tuesday.

China Central Television (CCTV) said that the country has thus far concluded over 50,000 cases of organ donations from deceased individuals, totalling more than 153,000 human organs donated.

China has established five major systems for human organ donation: acquisition and distribution, transplantation clinical services, transplantation quality control, and donation and transplantation supervision.

In 2023, the State Council enacted administrative regulations on human organ donation and transplantation, which went into effect on 1st May this year.
