WHO_Thousands of cholera cases recorded in the world

The World Health Organization announced that thousands of cases of cholera were recorded during the month of June, and the death of at least 160 people due to the disease.

The Organization explained in a statement: ‘Infections and deaths were recorded in 18 countries,’ noting: ‘The number of infections in the month of June was 14 percent lower compared to the month of May.’

It pointed out that: ‘32,467 new infections were recorded in the Eastern Mediterranean region, about 18.7 thousand infections in Afghanistan, more than 6.6 thousand in Yemen, and more than 5.2 thousand in Pakistan. Overall, the number of infections recorded during the period from January 1 to June 30 – 2024 in 25 countries, was 249,793 cases.

It is noteworthy that in January 2023, the World Health Organization considered the spread of the cholera epidemic a ‘level 3 emergency,’ which corresponds to the highest level of complexity.
