Washington to deploy long-range weapons in Germany, joint statement

The White House announced on Wednesday that the US will begin periodic deployment of the long-range fire capabilities of its Multi-Domain Task Force in Germany in 2026.

Exercising these advanced capabilities will demonstrate the US’s commitment to NATO and its contributions to European integrated deterrence, a joint US-German statement said.

When fully developed, these conventional long-range fires units will include SM-6, Tomahawk, and developmental hypersonic weapons, which have significantly longer range than current land-based fires in Europe, the statement continued.

This joint statement came following discussions between the US and Germany ahead of the NATO Summit in Washington which is spanning three days starting Tuesday and ending on Thursday (9-10-11) of July, The Russia-Ukraine war is the prominent topic in the Summit; however, President Biden did not hold back stating on the opening day that when it comes to defensive capabilities and effectiveness, NATO is the greatest in history.
