US House of Representatives form task force to investigate Trump assassination bid

US House of Representatives approved, in an overwhelming majority, formation of a task force to investigate the assassination attempt of former Presiden Donald Trump, which ultimately resulted in resigation of head of US Secret Service agency.

The house passed, late Wednesday, a resolution by 416-0 votes to establish the task force with a mandate of investigating and fully examine all actions by any federal agency, department, officer, or employee, state or local government, and private entities or individuals.

In a statement to the press, the house said the task force would consist of not more than 11 members of the House appointed by the Speaker, not more than five of whom shall be appointed after consultation with the minority leader.

The resolution gave the task force specified powers, including the authority to take depositions and issue subpoenas. It also required House committees to transfer relevant records to the task force within seven days of the resolution’s adoption.

The task force must issue
a final report on its findings no later than December 13, 2024, including any recommendations for legislative changes needed to prevent future security lapses.

Trump escaped a bid on his life during an election rally on July 13.
