UAE-German children’s dialogue highlights youth’s effective role in facing climate challenges


The Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) office, has organised the UAE-German Children’s Dialogue on Climate Change.

This event brought together members of the UAE Children’s Parliament, a number of the Green Sprouts group, and students from German schools in the UAE under the motto “Every Child Has the Right to a Clean, Healthy, and Sustainable Environment.”

The dialogue, held at the Youth Pavilion at COP28, aimed to highlight children’s rights to a sustainable environment and ensure their inclusion in climate management to guarantee mechanisms that enhance children’s rights as a fundamental approach to global climate action.

The dialogue emphasised the rights of children and adolescents to participate in decisions related to climate change, access relevant information, and affirm that they have been involved in the climate summit from the beginning.

It stressed the necessity of
amplifying their voices as the inheritors of the future, in addition to promoting environmental awareness and encouraging active participation of children in climate change and sustainability issues.

During the UAE-German dialogue, current climate challenges were discussed, and innovative suggestions for sustainable solutions were presented, underscoring the importance of youth’s role in climate action and in shaping their future.

The dialogue also urged the importance of exchanging ideas and experiences between the UAE and Germany to deal with environmental challenges and work towards sustainable solutions. It focused on developing environmental projects and educational applications centred on sustainability and emphasised cooperation in scientific research and innovation to solve environmental and climate challenges.

The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood Rym bint Abdullah Al Falasi stated that this initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to investing in future generat
ions and enhancing their role as active partners in facing climate challenges. It underscores the importance of international partnerships in achieving environmental goals, where the extensive participation of children and adolescents in this dialogue clearly indicates their deep understanding of environmental responsibilities and the vital role the rising generation can play in shaping a more sustainable future.

Al Falasi added that this initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of the UAE to fulfil its international commitments related to environmental protection and support the global agenda for sustainable development. She affirmed that cooperation with international partners is crucial to achieving these goals and contributes to enhancing the global dialogue on sustainability and climate change.
