Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his country is seeking to obtain permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council.
Erdogan pointed out in a press statement after Friday prayers in Istanbul that Turkey has not achieved any results so far regarding obtaining permanent membership in the UN Security Council.
He explained that the permanent member states of the Security Council have no intention of granting Turkey a permanent seat.
The Turkish President reiterated his emphasis on the principle of “the world is bigger than five” and that decisive international decisions are between the lips of the five permanent member states.
Erdogan stressed that the non-permanent member states have no influence while the permanent member states are the ones that run the world.
The council consists of 15 members, 10 of which are elected periodically and 5 permanent member states that have the power of veto, namely the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia.
