Prime Minister stresses the need to take a firm international stance to protect civilians and humanitarian workers in Gaza

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received today, Tuesday, the President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Kate Forbes, on the sidelines of his participation in the (Emergency Humanitarian Response in Gaza) conference held in Jordan.

During the meeting, Al-Sudani stressed, according to a statement by his media office: “The government supports the work of the Iraqi Red Crescent, with its clear activity in providing aid to the Gaza Strip, and yesterday issued a decision supporting the facilitation of the mission of the Iraqi Red Crescent in providing aid to Gaza,” stressing the importance of opening the crossings leading to the Strip via Jordan and Egypt, and that the International Federation should have a role in this field due to the lack of crossings that ensure the continuous arrival of humanitarian aid, as well as ensuring the evacuation of patients and wounded who need treatment outside Gaza.”

The Prime Minister stressed the need to take a firm intern
ational stance to protect civilians and humanitarian workers in Gaza, especially medical and health cadres, as well as not targeting any health facility, stressing the importance of mobilizing sufficient resources to purchase aid and provide it by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

For her part, Forbes confirmed that the Prime Minister’s speech at the conference put the dots on the letters, and thanked him for his support for the Iraqi Red Crescent. She also discussed with him concluding an agreement for the association that guarantees the presence of a headquarters in Iraq; in order to support the capabilities of Iraqi employees working in the Red Crescent and support Iraq In times of crisis.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies consists of 192 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the world, and works to provide humanitarian assistance and protection to those affected by crises and emergencies.
