Political, Parliamentary Affairs Minister meets elections int’l observer missions in Jordan


Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Haditha Khraisha met on Sunday with head of the Arab Women Organization (AWO) mission to observe the parliamentary elections, Major General Refaat Komsan.

Based on gender equality in the Kingdom, Komsan was accompanied by a number of male and female observers on the 2024 parliamentary elections from six Arab countries, including Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, and Morocco.

In the meeting, Khraisha said that the laws governing political work, whether parties or elections, are very supportive and friendly to youth and women, pointing out that the election law raised the minimum number of seats for women to one seat for each constituency by 18 seats for local constituencies, just as the law stipulated that the party list that will run in the elections must include a woman among the first three names and a woman among the second three names.

Furthermore, Khraisha met with the head of the Arab League mission to observe the 2024 parliamentary elections in J
ordan, Ambassador Khalil Al-Thawadi, Assistant Secretary-General, Head of the Arab Affairs and National Security Sector, in the presence of the Arab League’s Minister Plenipotentiary, Director of the Election Affairs Secretariat, Ahmad Amin, and General Coordinator of the mission, Heba Mereb.

During the meeting, Khraisha explained that Jordan welcomes Arab and international observers to check first-hand on the advanced Jordanian experience and how Jordan applies the highest international standards in the electoral process
