Today, Thursday, August 29, the newspapers issued in Baghdad focused on the visit of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to Egypt and Tunisia, the discussions he held, the files he discussed, their political and economic dimensions and future prospects.
Al-Zawraa newspaper, issued by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, focused on Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani expressing Iraq’s desire to form a joint business council with Tunisia, and extending an official invitation to Tunisian President Kais Saied to visit Iraq.
It quoted an official statement: “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met at the Carthage Presidential Palace in Tunis, the capital, with the President of the Tunisian Republic Kais Saied, and the meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields, and the importance of developing them in a way that achieves the common interests between Iraq and Tunisia. Regional and international issues of common interest were also discussed.”
It pointed out that the Prime M
inister extended an official invitation to the Tunisian President to visit Iraq, to consolidate Iraqi-Tunisian relations that are witnessing a new stage, strengthened by the signing of nearly twenty memoranda of understanding.
It touched on the extensive discussions that included joint files in various fields, where the importance of continuing work and diligent efforts to advance these relations was emphasized, in a way that achieves the common interests of the two brotherly countries.
It pointed out that the Prime Minister confirmed, during the discussion session between the Iraqi and Tunisian delegations, the Iraqi government’s keenness on the success of the new Tunisian government, and that his visit expresses the will and serious desire to strengthen relations, and the aspiration to build strong relations with Tunisia, praising the Tunisian government’s initiative to facilitate the granting of entry visas to Iraqis, which is an important step to strengthen relations.

which is issued by the Iraqi Media Network, it said in an editorial: “During the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, which included Arab Egypt and Tunisia, the economic aspect was the most prevalent despite the many files that were discussed during it. This is a natural matter because it is consistent with the vision and aspirations of the Iraqi government to start a new era in which economic growth is the most prominent goal after the security and political challenges that stood in the way of an ambitious project like this have ended.”
The newspaper added: “Perhaps this is the first time that Iraq has taken the initiative to start an economic openness to Arab and regional countries, as it paved the way for this with successful diplomatic activity and bilateral agreements that were the nucleus for future partnerships with the public and private sectors in those countries.”
It pointed out that: “During the visit to Egypt, a detailed agreement was reached to open markets between the two brotherly
countries and the entry of Egyptian industries into Iraq and lay the foundations to remove obstacles facing investors and increase trade exchange in line with the bilateral relations that have reached advanced stages. As for the visit to Tunisia, it witnessed the signing of several industrial, commercial and technical agreements in addition to partnerships for cooperation in vital sectors such as the electronic communications sector and modern management programs.”
It concluded by saying: “The economy is the essence of what any diplomatic activity can produce because it is the main pillar in the prosperity of countries. It is natural that it is the file to which all other files lead and serve.”
