Nechirvan Barzani: Iraq Must Remain A Tent For All Religious And National Components

The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, affirmed that Iraq must remain a tent for all religious and national components.

The Kurdistan region’s presidency stated in a statement: “Nechirvan Barzani met today Cardinal Louis Sacco, head of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and the world, and his accompanying delegation, as the meeting dealt with withdrawing the republican decree for the Chaldean Church.”

Barzani stressed that Iraq, including the Kurdistan region, should remain a tent for all religious and national components, calling on the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, to address this problem as soon as possible.

Barzani stressed that coexistence and acceptance of the other is a belief and a principle, pointing out that the beauty of Iraq lies in being a homeland for all components and the rights of all are preserved in it.

For his part, the Cardinal expressed his thanks to the President of the region for his support, stressing that the Kurdistan Region is an edifice for coexistence and acceptance of the other and they are proud of it.

He pointed out that this problem will never hinder his work and duties, and he will continue to preserve the components of Iraq and coexistence.

It is noteworthy that the situation in the Nineveh Plains and several other issues related to the status of churches and Christians in general are other axes during the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs in the Kurdistan Regional Government.
