Minister: Labor ministry has strategy to empower women

Labor Minister Hassan Shehata said Friday 22/03/2024 that his ministry has a strategy to empower working women economically and socially and achieve equality between both genders in the work market at the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

He asserted that the commitment of the Egyptian state to promote the position of women at all the different levels reflects full appreciation for the women role in the new republic.

In statements to MENA, Shehata said that empowering women economically and developing the skills according to the needs of the job market are top priorities to the Labor Ministry.

The ministry presents several training programs for women and provides them with job opportunities during the employment forum it organizes in cooperation with the private sector, Shehata said.

Shehata pointed out that the percentage of unemployment among women decreased during the recent years due to the support of the political leadership to the women, adding that the unemployment percentage went down
to 17.7% in comparison to 24.8% in 2014.

The state has set the issue of empowering women and achieving equality between both genders as a main element in sustainable human development, he said.

The ministry established a unit to achieve equality between both genders and eradicate all kinds of discrimination against women at work, he said, adding that this is an unprecedented step to merge the women in the work market and provide them with support to work in the private sector in addition to boosting their opportunities for economic participation.

The ministry implements training programs for women in cooperation with the international partners including the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the European Union (EU), he added.

Shehata thanked all the Egyptian women and working women who spare no effort to support the country, asserting that the Egyptian women set an example for giving and are a main partner in the development of the state and building the new republic.
