Member states determined to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050: ICAO Regional Director


Mohamed Abubaker Farea, Regional Director of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Middle East Office, deemed the timing of the third ICAO conference held in the UAE as highly significant, as it aligns with the strategic objectives of the UN-affiliated civil aviation organisation.

He also urged countries to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable aviation to preserve the environment.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of his participation in the third day of the third ICAO Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3), Farea stressed that the aviation industry is a cornerstone of national economies, noting many initiatives by member states aimed at achieving carbon neutrality and reducing greenhouse gases by 2050.

He then lauded the efforts of Arab countries and their significant steps towards enhancing their readiness to address this issue.

The issue of alternative fuels is vital and will benefit the aviation industry, he added, affirming tha
t the UAE will host COP28, as well as the ICAO meeting and the Dubai Airshow 2023 before the climate conference, which all contribute to a single objective, which is enhancing energy transition pathways.
