Masrour Barzani: The region will remain a safe haven for everyone who seeks refuge in it to escape injustice and terrorism

The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, confirmed: ‘The region will remain a safe haven for all those who seek refuge in it to escape injustice and terrorism.’

Barzani said, in a speech during the ceremony to announce the guidelines for regulating refugee affairs in the Kurdistan region: ‘For several years, the Kurdistan region has been hosting hundreds of thousands of refugees from neighboring countries and displaced persons without any discrimination,’ pointing out that ‘the Kurdistan Regional Government supports the voluntary return of all displaced persons and refugees and normalization of conditions in their areas.’

He added: “At this stage, we were facing a difficult situation and an economic crisis, but despite that, the regional government held the responsibility for managing dozens of camps, and the largest percentage of the burden was placed on the region.”

Barzani pointed out, “Today the Kurdistan Region is hosting hundreds of thousands of refugees and displaced
people who have taken refuge in the region due to the deteriorating security conditions and instability in their countries.”

He continued: ‘We tried, to the best of our financial capabilities, to provide basic services to refugees and displaced persons, such as schools, health insurance, and life necessities, and we hope that the federal government will be more helpful in serving refugees and displaced persons.
