Israeli restrictions stifle humanitarian response in Gaza, says UNRWA

Restrictions imposed by the Israeli authorities in the Gaza Strip have stifled humanitarian response efforts, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Tuesday.

The situation in northern Gaza “remains desperate, building infrastructure is in ruins, and families are seeking shelter wherever they can, including in heavily damaged UNRWA facilities,” UNRWA said in a statement.

UNRWA reported that important desalination plants have stopped working due to the lack of fuel in Gaza, noting that people do not have enough water.

It warned that survival has become a major challenge. According to UNRWA, families – including children – are forced to walk long distances to get the water needed to survive.
