GMC 2023 evokes values of tolerance towards a sustainable future

Speakers in the second edition of the Global Media Congress (GMC 2023) asserted that tolerance is the cornerstone of prosperous and stable communities.

In a panel discussion titled ‘Evoking Values of Tolerance for a Sustainable Future – Community Tolerance’, the participants highlighted the UAE’s rise as a global model of coexistence and human fraternity.

Panelists included Abdulla Al Shehhi, Director of The Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi; Claire Dalton, Head of Missions to the UAE, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); Khawla Barley, Head of Initiatives, Special Olympics UAE; and Hussain Al Moosawi, Editor-in-Chief, National Geographic Al Arabiaya.

Al Shehhi underscored the significance of the Abrahamic Family House as a hub where cultures converge, as it cradles a mosque, a church and a synagogue, allowing visitors of all religions to practice their faith, as well as take guided tours and take part in religious celebrations.

He noted that since its inauguration, the Abrahamic Family Hou
se welcomed huge numbers of visitors and hosted numerous religious celebrations, providing a conducive environment for promoting human fraternity.

For her part, Dalton highlighted the cooperation between the ICRC and the UAE in various areas, noting that the ICRC works hand-in-hand with the UAE to provide humanitarian aid to underprivileged people around the world.

Al Moosawi underscored the role of National Geographic in promoting the conservation of the planet, and shedding light on communities around the world, their history and stories on their practice of tolerance and coexistence.

Khawla Barley shared insights on the Unified Champion Schools, the Special Olympics UAE’s flagship programme, and its efforts to enhance social inclusion of people of determination, ensure an inclusive environment across all grades of education, and promote openness.

She noted that the programme promotes unity among students of all segments through sports, creating a positive change in behaviours and perceptions.
