General prosecution detains illegal immigration broker for 15 day, imposes travel ban on another


Amman: In what are now known as illegal immigration cases, the Irbid Public Prosecutor ordered the detention of a person for 15 days at the Correction and Rehabilitation Center on charges of human trafficking after he worked as a broker in facilitating people’s travel to foreign countries illegally and putting victims’ lives in danger.

In addition, the Public Prosecution decided to bar another employee of theirs who owned a tourist services office from leaving the country for a term of three months, with the possibility of an extension for a year, while the case under Article 15/A/3 of the Prevention of Human Trafficking Law.

The law views illegal immigration as a form of human trafficking, with two aggravating factors: first, it is a transnational crime, and second, there are multiple offenders and victims. Both of these factors carry a maximum 20-year prison sentence and a fine of JD20,000 dinars.
