General Network of Government Communication in Dubai discusses success stories strengthening Dubai’s reputation


DUBAI: The General Network for Government Communication (GNGC), held a meeting at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, to discuss Dubai’s strengthening global reputation, lessons learnt from the government’s response to the severe storms earlier this year, and the communication strategy for the 04 Unified Interactive Platform, which connects the Dubai Government with its customers.

Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA in Dubai, said, ‘Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Government of Dubai has established effective communication operations, which is vital to achieving our strategic objectives and strengthening community engagement.’

He stressed the need for swift communication during crises, whether related to health, weather or the economy, to ensure the public can take appropriate action. Al Marri also highlighted the role of communication in rein
forcing the government’s reputation locally and internationally by showcasing its achievements and initiatives to attract partnerships and investment.

Engineer Ahmed Al Mahri, Assistant Secretary-General of Government Communication and General Secretariat Affairs at The Executive Council of Dubai, commended Dubai’s government entities for coordinating their communication strategies effectively.

‘Communication departments have a critical role in spotlighting Dubai’s ambitious plans while engaging with both local communities and a global audience. Through these departments’ activities, Dubai has established a unique identity on the international stage as one of the world’s best cities for living, working, and visiting,’ he said.

Alia Al Theeb, Head of Media Affairs Section at the Dubai Government Media Office, spoke on the role of media communication in raising public awareness, especially during emergencies. She shared key lessons in communication, emphasising the importance of the swift, transparent, and o
bjective dissemination of information.

Maitha Al Gergawi, Senior Consultant at the Dubai Model Centre of the General Secretariat of the Executive Council, discussed the communication strategy for the Dubai Government’s Platform 04. She highlighted Dubai’s model for providing everyone with easily accessible channels for connecting with governments and receiving information.

First Lieutenant Saif Al Falasi, Head of the Community Responsibility Department at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, shared the department’s experience in reputation building, including initiatives it has launched.

Participants also discussed the importance of integrating the communication activities of different government entities under a single approach to boost Dubai’s reputation.
