French president: All preparations for summer Olympics finalized


France has finalized all preparations for the Olympic games (Paris 2024), President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday.

Macron’s statement came upon his arrival at the Athletes (or Olympic) Village for the Paris competitions in Saint-Denis, in Paris’ suburbs, four days ahead of the international tournament launch.

The president indicated that the relevant authorities had worked for years to prepare for the Olympic games, indicating that the security personnel had also been mobilized to secure the sports event.

The French Presidency, in a statement, affirmed that Macron inaugurated the village on February 29, adding that the steering Olympic and Paralympic Commission had equipped the village to accommodate 14,000 athletes, their companions and 9,000 Paralympic champions. Delegations had been arriving at the site since July 18.

The venue is scheduled to be transformed into “a new environmental region” encompassing 28,000 residential units.

The 13th summer edition of the international tournament is scheduled be
tween July 26 and August 11, with participation of 10,500 athletes representing 206 national sports commissions.

The championship emblem has been branded “the Olympic Phryge,” derived from the design of the Phrygian hats, along with symbols alluding to freedoms and the French Flag.

The games will include competitions in track and field, gymnastics, hockey, judo, rowing, shooting, surfing, tennis table, taekwondo, weight lifting and wrestling.
