French FM proposes 3 principles on Palestinian issue

New York: French Foreign Minister, Stéphane Séjourné, proposed three principles on the Palestinian issue on Tuesday, noting that they will guide the work of his country’s delegation within the UN Security Council in the coming days and weeks.

Séjourné, whose country is chairing the Council this month, said that the first of these principles is humanity, which requires the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners and working for the benefit of the civilian population in Gaza for a ceasefire.

He added that the second principle is clear justice, which is the need to relaunch the peace process in a decisive and credible way,” adding, “We know the outlines of the solution: two states living side by side in peace and security, within secure and recognized borders based on the lines of 1967, with their capital in Jerusalem.”

He added that the third principle will be the principle of responsibility in the face of the risks of escalation, stressing the need to do everything possible to avoid the region
from igniting and the conflict from spreading.
