Finance Minister directs to work with int’l partners to develop universal health coverage

Finance Minister Mohamed Maiet has issued directives to the president of the Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA) to work continuously with international development partners to develop Egypt’s example in the field of comprehensive health coverage.

The minister’s directives came after reviewing a report on the visit of the French Development Agency’s (AFD) delegation to the authority branch in Ismailia governorate.

These instructions are also part of presidential directives to increase spending on the health sector to propel the application of the universal health insurance system gradually nationwide.

The directives also aim to enhance the efficiency of health control, finance and management systems, improve medical services for citizens, and develop health, social and financial protection systems for all categories of citizens.

The minister lauded international efforts on reforming health insurance in Egypt with the support of the AFD, the World Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency
(JICA), among others, to boost positive cooperation on this score.
