Fayez meets U.S. Congress delegation

Senate President Faisal Fayez met on Tuesday with a delegation of assistants to members of U.S. Congress.

Speaking at the meeting, Fayez reviewed aspects of Jordanian-American relations, Jordan’s comprehensive reform process, and the region’s current situation, especially with regard to brutal Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.

Fayez stressed “strength” of Jordanian-American relations, and Jordan’s keenness, under the King’s directives, to develop and build on ties to serve common interests and push to establish more bilateral economic and investment partnerships.

Fayez indicated that the two friendly countries share “distinguished” relations based on mutual respect and joint cooperation.

Fayez valued support of the U.S. for Jordan, to enable the Kingdom to address economic challenges, due to the region’s current situation and its reception of about 1.3 million Syrian refugees as a result of the Syrian crisis alone.

Fayez pointed to the Kingdom
‘s comprehensive reform process in all its political, economic and administrative dimensions, in implementation of the King’s directives, aimed to reaching programmatic parliamentary governments, enhance popular participation, empower women and youth, and strengthen the attractive investment environment.

Fayez said this process also seeks to develop public administration, activate the role of women and youth, respect human rights, protect public freedoms, ensure the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law, and strengthen the integrity and transparency system.

Within the framework of the reform process, he said Jordan made constitutional amendments to enhance judicial independence and role of the legislative authority.

Fayez added that laws regulating political work were amended, mainly the laws on parliamentary elections and political parties, within the framework of seeking to reach programmatic parliamentary governments.
