China and Russia discusses strengthening military cooperation

Chinese Defense Minister Zhang Fu discussed today, Monday with the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Nikolai Yevmenov, who is currently visiting Beijing, the promotion of military cooperation.

“The military cooperation between China and Russia has developed increasingly, as the two navies have close cooperation and frequent exchanges,” the Chinese Defense Minister said in a statement.

He expressed his hope that the two sides can enhance contacts at all levels, including organizing joint training and patrols on a regular basis, as well as expanding practical cooperation in professional fields.

For his part, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy stressed that his country attaches great importance to strengthening practical cooperation between the two armies in various fields.

“Russia is willing to maintain close coordination with China, strictly implement the consensus reached by the two countries, and continuously expand maritime exchanges at all levels,” he said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced last Tuesday that Russia and China had held consultations on missile defense issues.
