Berndt discusses with Belkacem Haftar the response to meet the needs of the people of Derna and other communities.Finance Min Stresses keenness On Enhancing Ties with Russia

The U.S. Embassy in Libya announced that in a phone call yesterday, Chargé d’Affaires Berndt exchanged views with Engineer Belkacem Haftar on the ongoing response to meet the needs of the people of Derna and other communities affected by the catastrophic Storm Daniel floods in September 2023.

Berndt discussed the more than $15 million in humanitarian assistance that the United States has provided to help flood victims and the desire of the United States to continue to assist the people of Derna and other affected communities during the reconstruction phase.

The embassy added that Berndt noted that the United States encourages a unified and coordinated national approach to flood reconstruction with technical support from international institutions and transparency measures to ensure effective use of reconstruction funds.

Finance Minister Mohamed Maait underlined on Wednesday 28/2/2024 the depth of ties with Russia, stressing keenness on boosting ties, especially in the fields of trade and economy.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov on the fringe of the meeting of the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in Brazil.

This is the first time for Egypt to participate officially in the BRICS meeting.

The two sides exchanged views on the best way to reach a global financial structure that is more sustainable and stable in light of the current international economic challenges.

Maait expressed happiness for taking part in the BRICS meeting, considering this as a good chance for promoting economic partnerships with the BRICS member states.

Maait said Egypt is keen on improving the business environment to be more attractive to the private sector at local and foreign levels, highlighting efforts to qualify Egypt to become a regional center for production and re-exportation
in various domains.
