The UNSMIL said on its website that the attendees shared their concerns about the possible impact of the new electoral laws on their community and constituencies, and they invited Bathily to visit Al-Khoms.

‘I pledged to plan a trip to the city in the near future to further listen to the community and discuss with its leaders how to secure a safe, stable, and prosperous future for Libya,’ Bathily said in a tweet.

‘They further expressed concerns about the ongoing political polarization in the country and stressed the need for unity and elections as the only means to legitimize national institutions and prevent Libya from sliding into further divisions,’ he added.

Bathily stressed the need for key institutional stakeholders to engage in a constructive dialogue to agree on the way forward to elections, including by addressing the l
