Amman: Arab and European officials agreed that a two-state solution remains the only way to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and that any attempt to delay or evade the implementation of this solution endangers the security and stability of the region.

This agreement was reached during a meeting on Monday between the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and European Union foreign ministers in Brussels on Gaza and the future of the Palestinian issue.

Aboul Gheit called on European countries to take a necessary preliminary step by recognizing the Palestinian state.

Gamal Rushdy, the Arab League Secretary-General’s spokesperson, said that the meeting discussed the need to work urgently to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and deal with the effects of the humanitarian disaster that the people of the Strip are living.

Aboul Gheit met on the sidelines of the European meeting with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who was briefed on Aboul Gheit’s insights on the sit
uation in Gaza and the need to stop the war and launch a political process that would lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The two sides also expressed their deep concern about the escalation in the region, especially in the Red Sea.

The meeting was held today in Brussels in the presence of Josep Borrell, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, and the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
