Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, met today, Monday, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and his accompanying delegation.
A statement by the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives stated, “They discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip, efforts to calm and stop the escalation, the importance of opening corridors for humanitarian relief and the protection of civilians, and the role of the Arab League in this regard, stressing Iraq’s firm official and popular position in establishing an independent Palestinian state with Holy Al-Quds as its capital.
The statement added, “The meeting discussed Al-Halbousi’s invitation to the meeting of the thirty-fifth emergency conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union in Baghdad on developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip.”
