At least 15 people were killed in the collapse of an illegal gold mine in West Sumatra province, Indonesia.

Erwan Effendi, head of the province’s Disaster Agency, said that the illegal gold mine in the Solok area collapsed after a landslide due to heavy rains, while rescue workers are searching for seven missing people.

He added that rescue workers need eight hours to reach the site, which has no roads, noting that the victims are residents who extract gold manually.

He estimated that about 25 people were in the mine at the time of the accident, 15 of whom were killed, three injured and seven missing.
